Located about 150k east of Paris, the Appellation d’Origine Controlée (AOC) area of Champagne is spread over 34 000 hectares.Vineyards are mostly concentrated near Reims and Epernay, where 15 000 winegrowers, 150 cooperatives and more than 200 merchants share the work.
The three main characteristics of the Champenois terroir are the climate, the soil and the relief. The mix of these specific components, added to the unique process of Champagne making, contribute largely to the success of Champagne.
The grapes grown in Champagne are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
